Building The Therapeutic Relationship Together

Welcome and thank you for your interest. I’m Dr. Deborah Weisinger, a licensed psychologist in San Francisco.

It takes a lot of courage to ask for help. Being vulnerable might not come easily to you or, perhaps, the idea of psychotherapy seems intimidating or scary. But the first step is often the hardest step—it gets easier from here.

Naturally, you may feel overwhelmed by the idea of finding a psychotherapist. After all, how do you know if we will have rapport or if you’ll feel comfortable sharing your private thoughts with me? However, once we break the ice and our relationship is established, you will gain access to a new outlet of expression that can help you gain a fresh perspective on your life.

In my experience, finding a way for us to work together that allows your feelings to emerge freely leads to beneficial therapy. Helping you identify thoughts and experiences you may not have examined before can make the relationship we forge a valuable component of your therapeutic journey.

Whatever happens in our work together is worthy of exploration since it likely represents the same dynamics you’ve experienced in a familial relationship or during a life challenge. Although the therapeutic relationship is unlike any other relationship you will have, it is, nonetheless, a significant one that can lead to breakthroughs and newfound insight about yourself.

My specialties include working with those with anxiety, depression, bereavement, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Drawing from an array of modalities, I offer my patients a customized treatment plan tailored to fit their specific needs.

If you are interested in learning more, consider scheduling a 15- minute phone consultation to get more information and see if we might work well together.
